If you have a corrupted font or a font conflict ID in your system, the contents in the editor may be displayed in a strange font or doesn't show up at all after you have clicked the restyle button or used the Restyle command. If you don't have a font checking tool available you can do the following to fix the problem:
- Remove some or all of your third-party fonts from the Font folder inside your System folder.
- Then add a few at a time, launch PageSpinner and see if the problem reappears.
- If the problem reappears, the damaged font were among the fonts you recently added. Remove these fonts and add one at a time to find the damaged font.
If the floating menu palette (or other windows) doesn't show up on the screen, you should press the Option key the first time you select the window in the Windows menu. This could happen if you have if you have changed the monitor resolution to a smaller size and the windows previously were positioned outside the new desktop area.
PageSpinner may have problems with updating the text display if there is not enough free memory available for the System, and can sometimes display a black bar with multicolored dots in the middle of the window. Decrease the memory size allocated for the browser or other open applications and uncheck the box Use Temporary Memory in Preferences : General in PageSpinner.
Some versions of the extension GoMac is not PageSpinner-friendly and may cause some PageSpinner menus in the menu bar to disappear.
PageSpinner 1.x was reported to have problems if the FaxMenu extension included in FaxSTF 3.2.2 (and earlier) are enabled. The extension adds a menu item to the left of the AppleGuide icon in the menu bar. If you have problems you will need to disable the FaxMenu extension, but you should still be able to use FaxSTF with PageSpinner. There has been no reports about problems with the latest versions of FaxMenu.
Installation notes
You should not move anything that is located inside the PageSpinner folder to another place on your disk. Create aliases to the application and the files instead.
PageSpinner should not be run from a CD-ROM, you'll need to copy the PageSpinner application folder to your hard disk. If you are running Mac OS 9 with Multiple Users enabled, the PageSpinner folder should be placed in the Shared documents folder.
To use the PageSpinner Guide it needs to be located in the same folder as the application. It should be available in the Help menu if you are running System 7.5 or later and have the AppleGuide extension installed. You do not need to move the file PageSpinner Guide to the System folder.
Working with other applications
If you are saving files in the ISO 8859-1 format (the default setting) and use Fetch to upload the files, you will need to select "Customize:Misc" in Fetch and uncheck "Translate ISO characters" to have international characters transferred correctly.
Also make sure you don't have MacBinary enabled when saving PageSpinner HTML files. The recommended setting to use with Fetch's "Customize:Preferences:Upload" is:
Default text format: TEXT
Default non-text format: Raw Data
PageSpinner may have problems reading some Netscape Bookmark files, if a file is in an incompatible or a damaged format.
Known problems
The last items in large menus will not be available in a floating menu palette if the screen is not large enough to display all items in the menu.
When to submit a bug report:
Do the following before submitting a bug report:
• See if the problem is mentioned in the list above, and use suggestions that may be given.
• If possible take a look at the Support Page and the FAQ available at the PageSpinners web site http://www.optima-system.com/pagespinner/ to see if there is relevant information available.
• Remove the file PageSpinner Prefs in the System folders Preference folder.
• Start PageSpinner and see if the problem remains.
• Startup with only the Basic Mac OS Extensions selected in the popup menu in Extension Manager
• Restart and see if the problems remains.
• If the problems are gone add a few extensions, restart and see if one of these extensions introduces the problem.
• Repeat the step above until you have added all previously used extensions.
• If none of the above works download and install a fresh copy of PageSpinner and try this copy.
